Richard Smith’s Giftwrap, 1963, is on display at Tate Britain in the section of “Walk Through British Art: 1960.” The painting spans over five meters long, suggesting the scale of an advertising board and includes two three-dimensional painted canvas box constructions. The work was acquired in 1975 by the Tate Collection and will now hang in the Main Floor of Tate Britain.

Giftwrap was included in the 1966 Venice Biennale show ‘Five Young Artists’, in which Richard Smith took part representing the UK alongside Robyn Denny, Anthony Caro and Bernard and Harold Cohen. In that show Smith won the Mr and Mrs Robert C. Scull Prize for a non-American artist under 35.
